Ghosted. Several federal agencies have stonewalled congressional researchers’ queries about the Department of Government Efficiency's handling of sensitive data during its rocky 2025 tenure slashing government programs. Analysts at the Government Accountability Office, Congress’ nonpartisan watchdog, recently reached out to DOGE teams at six agencies and requested reports on DOGE’s access to information systems containing personal data. Two agencies — the Small Business Administration and the Department of Veterans Affairs — refused to hand over any of the requested data. Meanwhile, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and Securities and Exchange Commission provided “limited documentation” on security controls, like staff background checks, observed during DOGE’s work.
