Tunisian economy Africa's most competitive


In the 2009 World Economic Forum (WEF) annual report published by the African Development Bank, the World Bank and the Global Economic Forum on competitiveness, Tunisia has been ranked as the most competitive country in Africa.

The 2009 WEF Africa Competitiveness Report ranks Tunisia 36th in the world and fifth in the Arab world after Qatar (26), Saudi Arabia (27), the UAE (31) and Kuwait (35). Tunisia precedes Bahrain and Oman. Tunisia also precedes South Africa (45), India (50), and Turkey (63).

The report is based on data and surveys involving 12 ‘pillars’ covering, institutions, infrastructure, macro-economic stability, health and primary education, higher education and training, goods market efficiency, market size, labor market efficiency, technological readiness, financial market sophistication, business sophistication, and innovation.
