The OIC Participates In Somalia’s Reconciliation Conference

The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, has sent a delegation to Yemen and Djibouti to examine and contribute to resolving the internal conflict in Somalia.

In this context, the OIC has received an invitation to participate in the reconciliation conference between the Somali Government and the opposition groups, which will be held in Djibouti on May 10, 2008 under the auspices of the United Nations Special Office in Somalia.

The OIC has many times expressed interest in contributing towards bringing political stability and security to Somalia and to provide humanitarian aid for the internally displaced people, an initiative that has been welcomed by the Somali President, H. E. Mr. Abdulahi Yusuf Ahmed. The delegation is keen to establish channels of direct communication with the UN Office for future cooperation between the OIC and UN on this issue.
