News Advisory:

The Executive Director of the Somali Justice Advocacy Center Mr. Omar Jamal calls on the U.S and the international community to support the completion of the Somali Transitional Government currently based in Kenya, and is concerned that the possible failure of this process will breed terrorism in the region, and prolong the suffering of the Somali people.

Jamal appeals to the United States government and the international community to help the Somali Transitional government and the reinstitution of rule of law in Somalia.

The Somali Republic has not had a functioning government since 1991, and the international community has been reluctant to get involved.

Since Mr. Jamal spoke last time at the National Press Club on Tuesday, Feb. 15, the U.S Department of State released a press statement regarding the new Somali Transitional Federal government in Kenya.

Mr. Jamal will speak at a Press Conference at the National Press Club on Friday, March 11 at 2 p.m. in the West Room.

The Head of the United Nations Political Office in Somalia, Mr. Winston Tubman, will also speak about the Somali national peace conference, and its subsequent establishment of the Somali Transitional Government currently based in Kenya during the period in which Mr. Tubman was in Kenya.
