Kuwait detains military men accused of planning to attack Americans

The Kuwaiti authorities yesterday detained 8 Kuwaiti military men who were planning to carry out attacks against the American forces in Kuwait, according to a security source.

The Kuwaiti news agency KUNA quoted the director of the morale guidance and public relations at the army's general command Maj. Gen, Youssef Abdul Razzaq al-Mulla as saying that the security department in the military intelligence is investigating certain military men as information were available on an intention "for an action against forces of a friendly state." Al-Mulla did not explain the names of the detainees nor the military unit they belong to.

The 8 men were detained one week ago in coincidence with the Christmas celebration in Kuwait. Their detention also coincided with a warning by the American embassy in Kuwait on December 15, 2004 against terrorist attacks against the Americans there.

In the two past years Kuwait witnessed a series of detention acts in the lines of Islamists circles and the highest court in the country cancelled a verdict against four Islamists who are Khaled al-Oneizi, Adel al-Ali; Bader Jum'a and Dbeis al- Azeimi after accusing them of planning to launch attacks against the American forces there.

Worthy mentioning that Washington keeps in Kuwait several military bases of 25,000 soldiers. Kuwait was the starting point for the war led by the USA and the UK against Iraq and is still the bridge for logistic supplies for the American forces and the International coalition forces in Iraq. N.
