Gaza nears 1,000 days of genocide amid continued impunity

GAZA, (PIC)

Israeli occupation forces continue to commit acts of genocide in the Gaza Strip as the assault approaches its 1,000th day, amid an ongoing escalation in mass killings and systematic destruction and a persistent international failure to take effective action to halt the crimes or hold those responsible accountable.

The Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) said in a statement on Wednesday that developments on the ground reflected a consistent pattern of Israeli attacks on all aspects of civilian life.

The expanding scope of the attacks includes temporary displacement sites, public gathering areas and residential neighborhoods, reinforcing a reality in which no safe refuge exists anywhere in the Gaza Strip and turning the living environment into one that drives residents from their homes.

The center said the Israeli escalation was accompanied by policies intended to reduce the geographic space available to Palestinians through the expansion of what is known as the Yellow Line.

As a result, Gaza’s population has been compressed into less than 30% of the territory, creating one of the highest population densities in the world, while large-scale demolitions of residential buildings and infrastructure continue, particularly in eastern areas.

The statement said repeated Israeli attacks on civilians could not be separated from a broader campaign aimed at dismantling the foundations of the Palestinian society, including weakening public order and targeting civilian institutions and infrastructure.

These policies have intensified chaos and insecurity and forced residents into repeated displacement in the absence of any safe alternatives, the center added.

The PCHR said Israeli forces had not genuinely complied with the ceasefire agreement announced in October 2025, as killings, bombardment and destruction continued alongside a tightened siege and restrictions on the movement of people and goods.

These measures have deepened the humanitarian catastrophe and pushed conditions in the Gaza Strip to unprecedented levels, according to the statement.

The casualty figures have continued to rise since the beginning of the assault, reflecting the sustained nature of large-scale violence and confirming that the acts form part of systematic policies directed against a specific population through killing, starvation, destruction and forced displacement.

Since the ceasefire agreement was announced on October 10, 2025, 1,053 Palestinians have been martyred and 3,406 wounded, while the bodies of 786 others have been recovered following various attacks.

These figures bring the overall death toll since October 7, 2023, to 73,066, with 173,514 others wounded.

The center stressed that these combined policies fulfill the material elements of the crime of genocide under international law.

It said the attacks were not limited to individuals but targeted the Palestinian presence in Gaza as a whole by dismantling the foundations of civilian life and creating coercive conditions intended to force the population to leave.

The PCHR renewed its call on the international community to move beyond statements and adopt practical measures to halt the ongoing Israeli crimes, protect civilians and hold those responsible accountable through international justice mechanisms.
