Could Donald Trump's daughter, Tiffany, become a Lebanese MP?

A claim by a Lebanese newspaper that Tiffany Trump may have obtained Lebanese citizenship through marriage has fuelled speculation that the daughter of US President Donald Trump could one day run for parliament in Lebanon, despite there being no official confirmation that she has acquired the nationality.

The report, published by Lebanese daily Nidaa Al-Watan —broadly aligned with the country's pro-Western, anti-Hezbollah Christian right— claimed Tiffany, who married Lebanese-American businessman Michael Boulos in 2022, "may have obtained Lebanese citizenship", adding that after ten years she could become eligible to stand in Lebanon's parliamentary elections.

Under Lebanese law, foreigners can in some circumstances acquire citizenship through marriage, while parliamentary candidates must hold Lebanese nationality and meet constitutional eligibility requirements.

The speculation comes as the Trump family's ties to Lebanon have grown increasingly visible.

Michael Boulos, whose family originates from the southern Lebanese village of Kfaraakka, is the son of Massad Boulos , who became Trump's senior adviser on Arab, Middle Eastern and African affairs after his son married Tiffany Trump in 2022.

Last month, Michael Boulos drew criticism in the United States after appearing alongside Secretary of State Marco Rubio during high-level talks with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, despite holding no official government position.

Trump has also appointed Tom Barrack , another Lebanese-American businessman, as his special envoy for Syria and Lebanon.

His pick for US ambassador to Beirut, Lebanese-American businessman Michel Issa, is also a longtime friend and golfing partner of the president, highlighting the prominent role Lebanese Christian figures now occupy within Trump's Middle East circle.

The suggestion that Tiffany Trump could eventually enter Lebanese politics has prompted mixed reactions, particularly given Trump's close alignment with Israel during its genocidal wars in Gaza and Lebanon.

Throughout his presidency, Washington remained Israel's principal military backer , supplying weapons and diplomatic support as Israeli bombardment devastated large parts of southern Lebanon , Beirut's southern suburb and the Bekaa Valley.

For many Lebanese, the prospect of a member of the Trump family one day seeking elected office in the country has therefore been met with scepticism rather than enthusiasm.

The report has also reignited criticism of Lebanon's nationality laws, which rights groups have long denounced as discriminatory.

While foreign women who marry Lebanese men can apply for Lebanese citizenship, Lebanese women are still barred from automatically passing their nationality to their foreign spouses or children, leaving thousands of families without equal citizenship rights.

Campaigners have spent years urging successive governments to amend the law, arguing that it discriminates against Lebanese women and their children, but repeated reform efforts have stalled amid political opposition.

Tiffany Trump, a lawyer and the daughter of Trump and his second wife, Marla Maples, married Michael Boulos at the Trump family's Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida in November 2022, wearing a gown designed by Lebanese couturier Elie Saab in a nod to her husband's heritage.

The couple welcomed their first child, Alexander Trump Boulos, in May 2025.
