Hezbollah said it engaged in direct clashes with Israeli forces in southern Lebanon on Saturday, as rocket fire from Hezbollah killed one person in northern Israel, according to Israeli reports.
In a statement, Hezbollah said its fighters "engaged on Saturday morning with an Israeli force that attempted to advance toward the Naqoura municipal building using light and medium weapons, achieving direct hits", adding that it had also engaged Israeli forces in Khiam.
The developments come amid continued Israeli bombardment of multiple areas in Lebanon and warnings of a further intensification of attacks in the coming days, even as diplomatic efforts seek to contain the escalation.
In Israel, emergency services reported that one person was killed and another injured after a rocket was fired from Lebanon toward the town of Misgav Am, causing two cars to catch fire.
Israeli media also reported that two people were injured in the attack, one critically, with emergency services chief Eli Bin saying one casualty was trapped inside a vehicle as fires broke out in several cars, according to Ynet .
Hezbollah also said it had targeted the settlement of Dishon with rockets and struck a group of Israeli soldiers in Avivim using attack drones.
In Lebanon, Israeli strikes hit civilian infrastructure. Lebanon’s National News Agency reported that an Israeli strike on Thursday targeting a power station in the town of Al-Sultaniyah in Bint Jbeil district caused severe damage, leading to "the complete shutdown of the station".
Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said on Sunday that Israel would destroy more bridges in south Lebanon, and demolish more houses.
"Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and I instructed the IDF to immediately destroy all the bridges over the Litani River that are used for terrorist activity, in order to prevent Hezbollah terrorists and weapons from moving south," Katz said in a statement.
He said the military was also instructed to "accelerate the demolition of Lebanese houses in the contact villages in order to thwart threats to Israeli communities". The electrity outage has left more than 60 towns and villages across Bint Jbeil, Tyre and Marjayoun without power.
Israeli airstrikes and artillery fire hit several towns in south Lebanon, including Naqoura.
The death toll from Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon has risen to 1,024, with 2,740 wounded, according to the Ministry of Health, since the US-Israeli war on Iran spilled over to Iran.
118 of those killed were children.
Over 1 million Lebanese civilians have been displaced in just two weeks, according to the International Rescue Committee.
