On Thursday 14th May the Dáil will debate a People Before Profit Bill that would impose a series of comprehensive sanctions on the State of Israel for its continued violations of international law, including apartheid, illegal occupation and genocide. The Bill would ban the import from, and export of, goods and technology to/from Israel, ban Irish investment in Israel, prohibit loans and financial assistance to Israeli entities, and ban the sale and facilitation of Israeli state bonds and other Israeli financial instruments.
The Bill is grounded in Ireland’s obligations under international law, including the Genocide Convention, the Geneva Conventions, and rulings of the International Court of Justice, all of which place obligations on states not to aid or assist serious violations of international law.

I will keep this short as I know you are busy.
On 20 th May you will have a unique opportunity to support a Bill that will impose a series of comprehensive and lawful sanctions on the Apartheid State of Israel for its continued and flagrant violations of international law, including via its illegal occupation of Palestine, its commission of the Crime of Apartheid, and its ongoing genocide in Gaza.
As you know, international law places clear obligations on third states not to aid, assist or maintain economic relations that sustain serious violations of international law, including genocide, apartheid and unlawful occupation.
The Bill’s provisions are thus grounded in Ireland’s obligations under the Genocide Convention, the Geneva Conventions, and rulings of the International Court of Justice, all of which require states to take effective measures, including sanctions, to prevent complicity in such violations.
The Sanctions Against The State of Israel Bill 2025, which I fully support, will:
– Ban the import from, and export of, goods and technology to/from Israel
– Ban related financing, insurance and reinsurance connected to such trade
– Ban Irish investment in Israel
– Ban loans, credit and other financial assistance to Israeli entities and institutions
– Ban the sale, purchase and facilitation of Israeli state bonds and other Israeli state financial instruments
Poll after poll shows that Irish voters overwhelmingly support sanctions on Apartheid Israel.
It is far beyond time for Ireland to act unilaterally, and to give a moral lead to the rest of the world.
Israel is not a normal state, it should no longer be treated as one.
Legally and morally, you must vote to support this Bill; history will recall both those who did… and those who did not.
