The Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, has confirmed the continuation of its meetings in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, with mediators and in the presence of the representative of the Peace Council, Nickolay Mladenov, to discuss mechanisms for implementing the clauses of the ceasefire agreement and completing the tracks associated with its various phases.
The spokesman for the Movement, Hazem Qasem, said in a video statement on Wednesday that the talks focus on putting in place practical arrangements to implement all details of the agreement, expressing his hope to reach approaches that enjoy the acceptance of all parties, especially after what he described as the state of broad consensus that was achieved during recent meetings with mediators.
Qasem explained that current efforts are focused on completing what remains of the first phase, and effectively transitioning to the second phase of the agreement within an integrated vision that guarantees the implementation of the agreed-upon obligations.
He revealed that discussions during the sessions held yesterday witnessed a major convergence regarding the mechanisms for implementing what remains of the first phase, in addition to discussing files related to the second phase, including the entry of the National Committee into the Gaza Strip, the file of international forces, and dealing with the issue of Palestinian weapons within an approach he described as logical, reasonable, and capable of consensus between the different parties.
The spokesman for Hamas renewed his confirmation that the Movement is dealing with flexibility and positivity with the various issues raised, with the aim of reaching understandings that contribute to the success of the agreement and the implementation of its phases.
Qasem stressed that the interest of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip remains the main determinant of the Movement’s positions, by working to stop the aggression, guarantee the effective entry of humanitarian aid, and initiate the reconstruction process.
Hamas had delivered on 13 June the response of the Palestinian factions to the roadmap plan it received from Mladenov, on 19 April.
The Movement confirmed at the time that the Palestinian factions dealt with the plan responsibly and positively, stressing the need to complete the implementation of the first phase in all its details, especially regarding the humanitarian protocol and stopping all forms of aggression on the Gaza Strip.
Cairo witnessed during the past week a series of meetings bringing together Hamas and Palestinian factions with mediators from Egypt, Qatar, and Türkiye, which resulted in the crystallization of a unified Palestinian position that was presented to the mediators.
These meetings focus on ensuring the actual implementation of the agreement to stop the war on Gaza, completing the clauses of the first phase, stopping military operations and assassinations, opening the crossings, and facilitating entry of the National Committee tasked with managing the affairs of the Strip.
