Israeli settlers torch homes and vehicles in West Bank attacks

Israeli settlers carried out a series of coordinated overnight attacks on Palestinian communities across the occupied West Bank , setting homes and vehicles ablaze and injuring at least 11 people, according to local sources and emergency services.

In the village of Jalud, southeast of Nablus, the Palestinian Red Crescent said at least three residents were hospitalised with head injuries after being beaten during an attack that began late on Saturday and continued into Sunday morning.

Security footage circulating online showed dozens of settlers entering the village under cover of darkness.

Palestinian news agency WAFA reported that four vehicles and the village council headquarters were set on fire. As of Sunday morning, no arrests had been made. Israeli newspaper Haaretz said attackers spray-painted "avenge Yehuda" on buildings in Jalud, referencing an 18-year-old Israeli settler who was killed earlier on Saturday after a Palestinian vehicle struck his ATV.

According to the report, a message circulated in a WhatsApp group used by settlers called for a "revenge campaign across Judea and Samaria" - a term used by Israeli extremists for the West Bank - adding that "Jews won't remain silent over spilled Jewish blood". At least six communities targeted by settlers Elsewhere, WAFA reported that at least six communities were targeted during the Eid al-Fitr holiday.

In the village of al-Fandaqumiya, south of Jenin, settlers set fire to multiple homes and vehicles.

Videos shared online showed houses engulfed in flames as residents scrambled to extinguish the fires and repel the attackers.

In nearby Silat al-Dahr, settlers attempted to torch several homes and injured at least one resident who confronted them.

Further south, in Masafer Yatta in the Hebron hills, two Palestinians were injured and three others arrested during an attack carried out under the protection of Israeli forces, according to local reports. Among those detained were residents from Khirbet Hawara, including a child.

The current cycle of settler violence comes amid a broader rise in Israeli attacks in the West Bank , which has intensified since the US and Israel launched attacks on Iran on 28 February.

According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, at least 25 Palestinians have been killed by settlers and Israeli forces so far this year.

The attacks also come as the Israeli government continues to advance illegal settlement expansion plans in the occupied territory.

Earlier in the month, the UN released a report urging Israel to halt its settlement expansion, raising concerns of ethnic cleansing and documenting the displacement of more than 36,000 Palestinians in a year .
