The crime of assassinating journalist Mohammad Samir Washah, the correspondent for Al Jazeera Mubasher, sparked a wide wave of condemnations from press and media institutions and Palestinian factions, all of which confirmed that his targeting comes within the context of a systematic policy aimed at silencing the Palestinian media voice and preventing the transmission of the truth.
Field execution of the press
In this context, the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate condemned the assassination of journalist colleague Washah, who rose as a martyr following a deliberate targeting of a civilian vehicle in the heart of Gaza City. The Syndicate considered, in a statement on Wednesday, that this is a full-fledged crime, which can only be described as a field execution of the press and truth, and it is a new crime added to the black record of the Israeli occupation.
It said that what happened was not a passing incident, but rather a clear crime reflecting the insistence of the occupation on pursuing the free Palestinian voice, and targeting everyone who carries a camera or a pen, in a desperate attempt to erase the truth and break the Palestinian narrative.
The Syndicate confirmed that this crime comes in the context of a dangerous and systematic escalation, which raises the number of martyrs among Palestinian journalists to 262 journalists, in a shocking indicator of the scale of the deliberate targeting of Palestinian media.
Systematic targeting of media professionals
For its part, the “Palestinian Media Block” (based in Gaza) mourned the martyr Washah, stressing that he was one of the prominent media voices that conveyed the suffering of the population in Gaza to the world, despite the great risks surrounding journalistic work under current conditions.
The Block added that the assassination of Washah “is not an isolated incident”, but rather comes in the context of a series of violations targeting journalists, pointing out his exposure to campaigns of incitement and pursuit before his assassination. Calls for international action
For their part, media and human rights bodies called for urgent international action to stop the targeting of journalists, and to hold those responsible for these violations accountable, stressing that what is happening represents a clear violation of international laws and conventions that guarantee the protection of workers in the media field.
A deliberate crime against journalists
In the same context, the Media Office of the Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine said that “the Israeli entity continues its crimes in Gaza”, where it targeted the Al Jazeera Mubasher correspondent, journalist Mohammad Washah, inside his vehicle, which led to his martyrdom immediately, in a new crime that confirms the deliberate targeting of journalists and the violation of all international laws and conventions without any regard for accountability.
The office added, in a press statement on Wednesday, that this targeting comes in conjunction with the repeated attacks on Lebanese journalists, in a scene that confirms that the journalist has become a direct target of this aggression, in an attempt to silence the voice and suppress the truth in more than one arena at the same time.
The office continued, “We ask Allah to shower the martyrs of truth and media with His mercy, to grant a speedy recovery to the wounded, and to make their blood a light that exposes injustice and is not extinguished.” A blatant violation of laws
The Resistance Committees in Palestine also mourned, on Wednesday, Washah, who rose as a martyr in an Israeli bombardment that targeted a vehicle west of Gaza City.
The Resistance Committees said, in a statement, that the assassination of journalist Washah is a new “Zionist crime representing a blatant violation of all international norms and laws that stipulate the protection of journalists during wars.”
They stressed that “the crime of targeting the martyr journalist Mohammad Washah is a continuation of the criminal policy pursued by the government of the criminal entity against Palestinian journalists in particular and all free journalists in general.”
Occupation responsibility and calls for accountability
For its part, the Palestinian Media Forum mourned, on Wednesday, “the colleague Washah,” who rose as a martyr following a deliberate assassination crime carried out by the Israeli occupation via bombing a vehicle west of Gaza City.
The Forum condemned the crime, confirming that it comes in the context of the systematic and continuous targeting of Palestinian journalists, whose death toll in the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the Israeli aggression in October 2023 has risen to 262 journalists.
It pointed out that the targeting of journalists constitutes a blatant violation of international laws and conventions that guarantee their protection. It held the Israeli occupation fully responsible for this crime.
The Media Forum called on international and human rights institutions to take urgent action to stop the targeting of media crews and to hold the perpetrators of these crimes accountable. أسرة الشهيد الصحفي محمد وشاح تودعه بعد ارتقائه شهيدًا بقصف إسرائيلي منذ قليل في #غزة #مسك pic.twitter.com/IWu7zxDkr4 — Misk Channel – قناة مسك (@Misktvchannel) April 8, 2026 Escalation of violations and danger to the truth
This development comes at a time when international calls are escalating to provide protection for journalists in conflict zones, amid warnings of the repercussions of continuing to target them on the freedom of conveying the truth. It also coincides with the continuation of ceasefire violations, which have resulted in the martyrdom of hundreds of Palestinians and the injury of about 2,000 since the agreement went into effect in October 2025.
The agreement was reached after two years of a war of the Israeli genocide in the Gaza Strip with direct American support. The war and the ceasefire violations that followed have left more than 72,000 martyrs and more than 172,000 wounded Palestinians.
