An Iranian missile attack on Sunday killed four people in the northern Israeli city of Haifa Israeli media reported on Monday. The Fire and Rescue Service and the Home Front Command said the four people were recovered from beneath the rubble following "hours of intensive search-and-rescue operations".
Among those recovered include a man and woman in their 80s, a man in his 40s, and a 35-year-old woman.
Four other people were injured in the attack, including an 82-year-old man who is in "a serious" condition, Israeli authorities said, after he was wounded by a "heavy object and the blast".
The incident on Sunday evening saw Iranian missiles strike a residential building in the Israeli city , minutes after the military warned that a new round of missiles was fired from Iran. The missile's impact led to the collapse of several floors in the building.
Footage shared by news agencies showed significant damage to the building and rescuers conducting search operations.
According to Israeli media, Israeli forces and rescue teams in the area are operating under the assumption that the missile may not have detonated, meaning that hundreds of kilogrammes of explosives could still be present at the site.
Israeli authorities are also investigating whether a gas explosion caused by the strike could have led to the partial collapse of the building, local media added.
The building has been evacuated in case the missile’s warhead explodes, local police told The Times of Israel .
The strike in Haifa was the latest of its kind carried out by Iran in retaliation for the joint US and Israeli assault on the country , which has been ongoing since 28 February.
Thousands of Iranian civilians have been killed, including 34 in overnight strikes on Sunday and Monday. The total death toll stands at 2,076 according to the Iranian Health Ministry.
In the early hours of Monday, another missile attack targeted the Haifa area, local media said.
Iran has previously launched strikes at Tel Aviv, Beit Shemesh, Dimona, and Haifa over the course of the war.
Iranian missiles have also struck the Israeli-occupied Old City in east Jerusalem , causing damage to several religious sites in the area.
At least 19 people in Israel have been killed by such attacks. In the occupied West Bank, at least three Palestinian women were killed by an Iranian missile in Beit Awwa, near Hebron, on 18 March.
Israel and the US launched an unprovoked war on Iran on 28 February while negotiations on Iran's nuclear programme, mediated by Oman. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had previously advocated war on Iran for decades.
Conflict escalated dramatically between Tehran and Tel Aviv in 2024, amid the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.
In June 2025, Israel launched a surprise attack on Iranian military sites during a 12-Day war. The US also joined in on the attacks, launching strikes at Iranian nuclear sites.
