NAIROBI, Aug. 24 (Xinhuanet) -- The United Nations Independent Expert on Somalia Ghanim Alnajjar is on a 11-day mission to the Horn of African nation to review human rights conditions, UN officials said here Wednesday.
A statement from the United Nations Development Program Somalia office in Nairobi said the expert will look into a variety of issues related to human rights, including the rights of women, freedom of speech/opinion and prison conditions.
He will also look into administration of justice, the rights of children and the right to education, demilitarization, economic, social and cultural rights and civil society, said the statement.
Alnajjar is expected to meet with a variety of diplomats, localauthorities, civil society representatives and international organizations in Nairobi and different regions of Somalia as time and security permit.
This is Alnajjar's fifth annual fact-finding visit to the country since being appointed independent expert for Somalia by UN Secretary General Kofi Annan in June 2001. Enditem
