Thousands of people have supported Somalia's new Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke in a rally held in the country's capital.
The Saturday demonstration was organized by Mogadishu's mayor Mohamed Osman Ali Dhagah Tuur, and was widely participated in by the citizens, a Press TV correspondent reported.
Sharmarke, a former UN employee, took the oath of office at a session of parliament in neighboring Djibouti. Prior to the swearing-in lawmakers had voted 414 to 9 in his favor.
President Sheikh Sharif Ahmed, who took office last month, on Thursday, announced the nomination of the 48-year-old son of Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke, an elected leader assassinated in 1969.
Sharmake told reporters on Saturday that his first steps as the country's prime minister would be to ensure displaced people are returned to their homes. He was referring to the inhabitants of Elsha Biyaha refugee camps where people have been sleeping in shelter for the past two years.
The government of Sheikh Sharif Ahmed, who succeeded Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed as the new Somali president last month, faces the huge challenge of ending two decades of civil war following the ouster of former dictator Siyad Barre in 1991.
