Islamists take over police stations

(SomaliNet) Amid continuing to confiscate former national buildings in the Somalia capital Mogadishu to secure restoring peace and stability, the powerful Islamic Courts have taken on Thursday control of most of the police stations in city.

The Islamists, who took control of Somalia capital and other key towns in southern of the country last June from US backed warlords, said they have deployed security forces on all police stations taken over by them to establish the security.

The chief security of Banadir province Sheikh Abdulahi Moalim Nahar known as Abu-Uteyba confirmed the local media that they have taken over 14 police stations in Mogadishu from former police officers.

“We confiscated all the security centers in the capital peacefully besides two police stations in Huriwa and Howlwadag districts because of continuing negotiation with holders and we expect to get them soon,” Abu-Uteyba said adding “the police officers will work with the Islamic Courts on the security in the capital.

He said this is very positive step that would help reducing crimes.

“Our troops will soon start normal patrolling through the city and fight against all evil actions including robbery, thefts and killings,” Sheikh Abu-Uteyba said. “The anti crime operations would be redoubled and the capital will go under rigid control,”

He mentioned that all police stations will begin their daily duties and will judge the public to finish the evils.
