Ethiopia continues into send troops in Somalia


(SomaliNet) Hundreds of Ethiopian troops have entered overnight Wajid, the capital town of Bakol region in southwest of the Somalia capital, reports say. “We have seen Ethiopian troops in every corner of the town this morning and they are heavily armed,” witnesses told Somalinet office in Mogadishu.

The additional troops of Ethiopian have stationed in camps at the suburbs of Wajid bordering with Ethiopia not knowing whether they are going to head Baidoa town to protect the UN-backed and weak transitional federal government based there from any possible attack from Islamic Courts.

“They are heavily armed soldiers with armored vehicles and tanks and seem to be ready for launching rapid attacks,” local resident who refused to be identified said.

Some reports say the daily activity in the airport of the Wajid is limited by the Ethiopian forces for military purpose. The airport of Wajid town is often used by relief agencies in the region.

The Addis Ababa forces are reported to have been using the Wajid airport where their military planes landing continuingly.

Ethiopian government conducts larger military movements in the border regions of Somalia and that was meant to aim to defend Somali’s interim government based in southwestern Somalia town of Baidoa 240km to the capital.

The tension is high as top Islamist leader declared a holy war (jihad) against Ethiopia if it doesn’t withdraw its troops from Somalia. Meanwhile former soldiers of Somali national forces who were injured in the Somalia-Ethiopia 1977 war with most of them lost their legs and arms condemned the Ethiopian military intervention in Somalia and vowed to join the holy war (jihad) against Ethiopia.
