Sudan mediates between Washington and Somali Islamic courts


(SomaliNet) Sudanese official in Washington USA said there have been continuing secretive Efforts to mediate between US government and Islamic courts’ union in the Somalia capital Mogadishu who seized last week most of the control of the city from warlords of anti terror alliance.

In an interview with London based Arabic news paper Qudus Al-Arabia, the official who asked not to be identified said that Sudan government holds a mediation role between Islamic groups in Somalia and US government.

The Sudanese officer said there were underground meeting by Sudan government and US envoys in unspecified African country bordering with Somalia.

The official stated the Sudan government makes the efforts for Islamic, Arabism and African sake.

There is no independent sources confirming there have been efforts to go-between islamists in Mogadishu and Washington although earlier the head of Islamic courts Sheik Sharif said they have sent a letter to Bush administration indicating that Islamic courts have links with terrorist groups.
