OIC Summit's final communique adopts Makkah Declaration, ten-year program

MAKKAH, Dec 8 (KUNA) -- The proposed final communique of the third Extraordinary Islamic Summit has adopted Makkah Declaration and the ten-year program of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC).

The final communique proposal, a copy of which was received by Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on Thursday, states that Makkah's summit affirmed that Islam has been a religion of moderation that has refused extremism.

The proposal urges Muslim states to fight terrorism with every possible way and to develop education curriculums to promote tolerance, understanding, dialogue and diversity.

The summit also stressed the reforming of the scholar academic forum to make it the main reference for Muslim nations.

As for political issues, the summit stressed the Palestinian issue as the central concern and called on Israeli forces to withdraw from Palestinian lands, which have been occupied since 1967, in addition to the Syrian Golan Heights and Lebanese lands.

The Israeli withdrawal, the summit added, would unify Muslim nations' stands concerning a comprehensive solution for the Palestinian issue in accordance with the United Nations resolution, the Arab peace initiative and the roadmap.

Moreover, the summit stressed the importance of preserving Jerusalem's Islamic and historic identity.

The summit also said that OIC member states should allocate the necessary resources to preserve Al-Aqsa Mosque, support Palestinian institutions and establish Al-Aqsa University in Jerusalem.

It also urged OIC member states to cooperate with the international community to stop and dismantle Jewish settlements, and to cease the construction of the Israeli separation wall and eradicate its already built parts.

On the Iraqi situation, the summit lauded the Iraqi national reconciliation conference and denounced terrorism operations carried out against Iraqi people.

In addition, the summit affirmed its support for the political process and the reconstruction efforts in Iraq.

On Kashmir's issue, the summit stressed its support for the Kashmiri people's rights to decide for their future, calling on concerned parties to respect human rights. It also agreed to politically and diplomatically support the representatives of Kashmiri people.

The summit supported the Somali government in its efforts to restore security and stability in Somalia and denounced the Armenian aggression on Azerbaijan.

It also expressed its support for the Turkish Cypriot people to achieve a comprehensive solution through the UN.

The summit renewed its approval of the Sudanese peace agreement and the resolution issued by the tenth OIC conference to establish a fund for the reconstruction in Sudan.

The summit also pledged to counter any foreign threats against any member states and stressed the importance of reforming the OIC.

The summit also proposed establishing an independent Islamic human rights institution to monitor human rights in OIC member states.

It also proposed establishing a free trade zone for the member states and stressed the importance of increasing trade among Muslim nations.

The summit welcomed forming the Islamic international institution to finance commerce and called for increasing the capital of the Islamic Bank.

The summit stressed the importance of fighting poverty and unemployment and called for more efforts to eliminate diseases by forming a specialized fund through the Islamic Bank.

It also decided to adopt steps toward developing science and technology and to narrow the digital gap between Muslim nations and developed nations.

The Third Extraordinary Islamic Summit kicked off yesterday in Makkah with the participation of 57 Muslim states and would conclude later on Thursday. (end) kt.
