Allawi's list makes progress in the elections, three American soldiers killed


Preliminary partial results of the Iraqi elections showed the lead of al-Seistani supported list by getting more than 2 million votes. The Higher commission for the Iraqi elections said on Friday in a press conference that the list of the United Iraqi Coalition collected 2.212 million votes in 10 governorates in the central and southern parts of the country against more than half a million of votes for the list of the interim prime minister Eyad Allawi.

The results indicated that list of Allawi, who is also a Shiite, came in the second rate with 579,000 votes. It added that so far some 3.3 million votes were selected in 35% of the ballot centers in the country. The third position was for the members of the "independent national elites" list led by Fathallah Ghazi Ismael which got 15% in the Iraqi capital.

Meantime, three American soldiers were killed and other 7 injured on Friday in three separate attacks in Beji, and Musil to the north of Iraq and the south of the capital Baghdad.

American army sources admitted yesterday that Beiji attack was the most violent where one soldier was killed and other seven injured. Thereby, the number of American soldiers killed in Iraq since the invasion of this country in March 2003 increased to 1441 soldiers according to the figures of the US defense department ( the Pentagon.).
