Khartoum: South agreement is effective from Sunday, interim constitution in 6 weeks

The first deputy for the Sudanese President Ali Othman Taha on Monday stressed that the peace agreement signed with the people's movement will be implemented after its final signature on January 9th in Nairobi.

Taha said in a press conference that IGAD secretariat will hand over the two sides two copies of the final peace agreement in Arabic and English to be adopted by the National Council( the parliament) and the liberation council of the southern rebels.

He added that a committee representing the two sides will draw an interim constitution from the peace agreement and the constitution of 1998 during 6 weeks. Then the interim constitution will be approved by the two parliaments (the national council and the liberation council) and then state's establishments will be formed in the north ( presidency establishment, the Cabinet, the legislative council, the states council and judiciary establishment).

Taha added that after the appointment of the leaders of the rebels John Garang as a first deputy for the Sudanese President, he will be, in his capacity the president of the government of the south will appoint the southern Sudan government and will form the southern legislative council, appoints the governors of the south states and establishes all establishments of the government of the south.
