Islam advocates communal peace

Speakers at an international Islamic conference, held on Thursday in the city, called upon the Muslim Ummah to unitedly protect Muslim interests and counter anti-Islam propaganda.

They termed Islam a religion of peace and harmony and Prophet Mohammad (SM) as the model of peace. They said Islam is not for Muslims only, but to ensure peace for humanity.

Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Barrister Moudud Ahmed while addressing the opening session as chief guest, said Islam could play a significant role in establishing peace across the world.

He called upon the Muslim world to work out strategies unitedly to achieve that goal.

"There is no room for fundamentalism or terrorism in Islam," Barrister Moudud said and added, "Islam is a religion of peace and communal harmony."

The day-long conference, under the auspices of the Institute of Hazrat Mohammad (SM), was held at the Osmani Memorial Hall with Maj Gen (Retd) Syed Muhammad Ibrahim, president of the organisation, in the chair. Minister for Post and Telecommunications Barrister Aminul Haque, while addressing the 2nd session of the conference as chief guest, said Islam is for ensuring welfare of all, not only of the Muslims.

Terming the teachings of the Prophet (SM) as for all, Barrister Haque said Mohammad (SM) was the best model the world has ever seen.

State Minister for Religious Affairs Mosharef Hossain Shahjahan called upon the Muslim community to set aside misunderstandings and to end internal feud to ensure peace across the Ummah. He said Prophet (SM) did not fight to occupy any country but fought in self-defence. The State Minister emphasised mutual understanding among the Muslims and Non-Muslims and said without that peace cannot be achieved for all.

Mohammad El-Sayed El-Sayed El-Safty, Dean of the Faculty of Religious Science of Darul Ihsan University, said Islam played the most significant role in establishing peace in the world.

He stressed upon resolving internal problems by the Muslim community themselves for building a greater Muslim unity.

Ahmed Farid, a former secretary presented the keynote paper: "Islam, Clash of Civilisations and World Peace."

Among others, the function was addressed by Mohammad Shahta Zarab, Dean of the Diplomatic Crops, Yunusov Ramil Munavarovich, Chairman of the Council of Ulema of the Religious Board of Muslims in Tatarstan, Daoud Rosser-Owen, President of Association for British Muslims, Maulana Mohiuddin Khan, Prof Hasan Abdul Quayum, Maulana Shah Muradullah Ahmed, Lt Gen. (Retd) Nooruddin Khan and Mohammad Quamaruzzaman.
