Parliament sacks Somali PM, dissolves government

NAIROBI - Somalia's parliament on Saturday sacked Prime Minister Mohammed Ali Gedi by overwhelmingly passing a vote of no confidence, which effectively dissolved his government.

Of the 275-member assembly, 184 approved the motion, four abstained and five voted against it. Other lawmakers were not present in the parliament, located in Mbagathi, a surbub south of the Kenyan capital.

Some 95 Somali lawmakers had earlier in the day presented the motion, arguing that Gedi and his government, were in office illegally as they had not been confirmed by the parliament.
