A 32-year-old Elliot Park woman was found shot to death in her apartment Nov. 9 at the Adams Apartments, 500 S. 10th St.

Authorities have identified the woman as Yasmin Ali Geelle, said Minneapolis Police spokesman Ron Reier.

Authorities found Geelle, a native of Somalia, in her first-floor apartment in the early morning of Nov. 9. A 911 caller initially reported the shooting to authorities as a fire at 2:53 a.m., Reier said.

"There was a language barrier," Reier said, adding that contributed to the confusion when the shooting was first reported.

Geelle died of a gunshot wound, according to autopsy results made public Nov. 10 by the Hennepin County Medical Center.

The shooting remains under investigation.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Minneapolis Police Department at 673-2941.

According to the Star Tribune, Geelle had lived in the Adams Apartments since 1995. She moved to Minneapolis from a Kenyan refugee camp.

The St. Paul-based Somali Justice Advocacy Center is assisting police in gathering information on Geelle's death. Those with information are asked to call 651-917-0383.
