The Somali Government is planning to relocate to Mogadishu by January, an MP in the new Somali administration said yesterday.
"We want to go back to our country as soon as we can but we first have to look at the most excellent way to do it," said Mr Mohamed Hassan.
He said his government had already appointed a fact-finding mission to assess the situation on the ground.
Somalia’s new transitional president, Mr Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed, the prime minister and MPs are in Kenya due to insecurity at home.
Hassan said the Prime Minister, Mr Ali Mohamed Ghedi, on Sunday discussed the possibility of relocating with the MPs and warlords.
Meanwhile, the two leading warlords in Mogadishu have invited the new administration to immediately set up its base in the capital.
Addressing Somali MPs during an Idd ul Fitr luncheon hosted by Mr Ghedi at the Inter-Continental Hotel, Nairobi, the two former faction leaders who are now MPs, Mr Musa Sudi Yalahow and Mr Mohamed Kanyare Afrah, pledged to uphold peace.
Mr Yalahow assured Mr Ghedi that his militia would maintain peace when the new administration moves to Mogadishu.
