Dutch Student achieves Three A Levels at Grade A after only One Year of Study
Faiza Hassan, a 20 year old Dutch student at Bournville College, has achieved grade A passes at A level in Applied Maths, Biology and Chemistry having studied at the college for just one year. She took daytime classes in Maths and Chemistry and evening classes in Biology for two evenings per week.
Faiza said "I chose to come to Bournville College despite living in Stechford because my brother was a student at the college and he was very enthusiastic about how good it was. I am delighted to say his enthusiasm for the quality of teaching and the support given by the tutors was fully justified!".
Born in the Somali Republic, she has lived in the UK for only two and a half years following the decision of her parents to move from the Netherlands to work in the UK.
She chose to study, ‘Fast track’ for the 3 A levels as she is looking to take Chemical Engineering at The University of Birmingham – with all the inherent challenges that will bring!
Despite the heavy study workload she has undertaken voluntary work at a nursing home and also helped to teach English to other Somali nationals in Birmingham.
College Principal Norman Cave commented "This is an outstanding achievement particularly in the light of Faiza’s background and history. We are also looking for great things from her younger sister Zahra who is currently studying at Bournville and achieved 2 grade As and 1 grade B at AS level this year".
