BEIJING, Dec. 31 -- Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and veteran Labor Party leader Shimon Peres agreed Thursday on a title for Peres, paving the way for the establishment of the coalition government.

Peres will be second in command to Sharon and the Jerusalem Post newspaper reports that his official title will be Associate Prime Minister, while Ehud Olmert, will keep his title of deputy prime minister.

The deal will clear a hurdle on the way to forming a coalition between the Likud and Labor parties.

The Labor party upheld Sharon's plan of withdrawal from all settlements in Gaza and some in the West Bank.
